21 St. George's Square, S.W., 31st May, 1917.

During the two years (1912-14) in which I was Principal Teacher of French in Selkirk High School, Miss ISABELLA MURRAY WAS one of my most successful pupils.

She had & decided aptitude for the language, and possessed the faculty of manipulating it well, not only orally, but also in written compositions and translations. She was also much interested in the literary side of the subject, in so far as we had time to study it, and all her work in my classes was characterised by very good ability and studious interest.

If Miss Murray has continued as good & student during her College course as she was at school, the ought by now to be thoroughly well qualified for the teaching profession; and if, in this capacity, she is called upon to teach French, I have no hesitation in recommending ber as eminently capable of doing so.

M. A. EWAN.
